Vegan Fried Green Tomatoes Recipe

Happy Sunday Veggie Fam! I was craving a Southern Comfort staple this week. My grandy and mommy always made some bomb fried green tomatoes. I want to share that recipe with a twist with you. Enjoy! I have all the recipe details via my Instagram posts below.

It's #SundayRecipeTime Veggie Fam 🌱. This week, I was craving one of my family's favorite appetizer, side, meal 🤷🏾‍♀️ lol. Fried Green Tomatoes!!! I got a ton from the Farmer's Market. Let me show you my family's recipe with a twist 🌪. I have the full recipe ⬇️ Fried Green Tomatoes Ingredients • 4 Green Tomatoes (sliced) • 2 cups of Unbleached All Purpose Flour • 1/4 cup of Yellow Cornmeal • Unsweetened Almondmilk • 6 tsps of Garlic Powder • 6 tsps of Onion Powder • 1 tsp of Red Pepper Flakes • Ground Black Pepper and Salt to Taste • Canola Oil • 2 brown paper bags Directions 1. Take 1 brown paper bag and add in 1 cup of the flour, 2 tsps of Garlic Powder, 2 tsps of Onion Powder, black pepper and salt to taste. Shake bag to mix well. 2. In bag #2, add in the 2nd cup of flour, your cornmeal, 2 tsps of Garlic Powder, 2 tsps of Onion Powder, black pepper and to taste. 3. Grab a bowl and put enough of your almond milk in to create a dredge for your tomatoes. That's usual around 1 1/2 cups. Whisk in your remaining garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, ground black pepper, and salt to taste. 4. Before you get started with breading the tomatoes, take a frying pan and fill it with your canola oil. Het enough for a nice deep fry. Turn the heat to medium. 5. Now it's time to prep the tomatoes for frying! 6. Add about 3 slices of the tomatoes in the bag with just the flour, then shake. 7. Take the tomatoes our, then dip them in your wet mix coating both sides. 8. Then add your tomatoes to the cornmeal bag. Shake well. 9. Repeat steps 6-8 until all tomatoes are ready to be fried. 10. Once the oil is hot, add in a few tomato slices. Allow them to fry for about 3 minutes per side or until golden brown. 11. Lightly salt when you take them out of the frying pan and enjoy!

    I’m a huge fan of grits. I like the fact that these are vegan in case some of my friends aren’t eaten meat products.
